Solar Panel Cleaning

Why do I need to clean my solar panels?

Solar panels work by allowing light into the solar cells. The more light that hits a panel, the more power it will generate. Due to the upwards angle of solar panels, they are more prone to bird droppings and a build up of dust and debris. This build up reduces the amount of light hitting the panel and decreases its output. Solar Panels should be professionally cleaned every 6-12 months to keep them running efficiently.

Maintaining Your Solar Panels

We only use professional solar panel cleaning equipment and the purest deionized water when cleaning your solar panels. We never use any detergents or abrasives to clean solar panels as this degrades and damages them by adding buildup and scratches that affect power output. We don’t use metal objects or harsh abrasive products for removing caked on materials, scratching the glass on a solar panel can affect its performance because the scratches cast shadows over the solar cells. Solar panel glass is generally high quality so only clean deionized water and a little scrubbing will remove even the most stubborn grime. At LV Solar Panel Cleaning we use only pure, properly filtered water pumped through an extension pole with a SOFT brush attachment to ensure that no damage is caused to the glass and your solar panels are left sparkling, spotless and ready to produce as much energy as possible.

How Solar Panels Should NOT Be Cleaned

Solar Panel Manufacturers recommend against using chemicals or detergents to clean your solar panels as these leave behind a sticky microfilm that attracts more dust and grime decreasing their efficiency. Abrasives damage the glass and can even void the warranty of your solar panels. Tap water will NOT clean your solar panels effectively due to the minerals contained inside. When dried these minerals form water spots which creates a haze effect over the solar panel glass. At LV solar panel cleaning we use a deionized water filtration system which removes these minerals to leave you with a spot free clean and solar panels that can operate at full potential.

Will Rain Clean My Solar Panels?

Unfortunately rain will not effectively clean your solar panels, Although rain will provide a slight rinse of any loose dust, it will not remove the baked in dirt, bird droppings and debris. There is only one way to effectively clean solar panels and that is by using properly filtered water and scrubbing the build up off. Book an appointment with LV solar panel cleaning, we will give your solar panels a professional spot free cleaning and get them back to operating at peak efficiency.
